SANDY, Utah – Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Jeff Attinella has won MLS Save of the Week!
Attinella won the award for his great save on Obafemi Martins’ point-blank attempt in the 72nd minute of RSL’s 4-0 loss at Seattle. The second-year RSL man beat out Houston defender Corey Ashe, taking home 39.94 percent of the vote to the Dynamo defender's 32.38 percent.
This is the fourth Save of the Week win of the year for Real Salt Lake and the third of Attinella’s career. The Florida native previously won the honor for week 11 for his double save in RSL's 2-1 win over Colorado Rapids. Attinella also won in his MLS debut last summer, earning the award for a big stop in RSL’s 3-0 win at FC Dallas on July 13, 2013. RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando won Save of the Week honors in the first and second weeks of the season.
Attinella and Real Salt Lake will return to action on Saturday, when they’ll host Portland Timbers at 8:00 p.m. MT at Rio Tinto Stadium. Saturday’s match is almost entirely sold-out; those who don’t have tickets can watch the match on ABC 4.
