Rimando nominated for Etihad MLS Player of the Month

Nick Rimando - Player of the Month - March 2014

SANDY, Utah – Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando had a fantastic March – now it’s time for him to cap it off with some hardware.

The veteran RSL ‘keeper is one of five nominees for Etihad MLS Player of the Month, which, in a new change implemented this year, will be decided by a fan vote. Rimando is the only goalie up for the March award, joining Toronto FC midfielder Michael Bradley, Houston Dynamo forward Will Bruin, FC Dallas midfielder Mauro Diaz and Columbus Crew midfielder Federico Higuain on the list of nominees picked by MLSsoccer.com editors.

Perhaps the most accomplished MLS goalkeeper in league history, Rimando had an outstanding opening month of the season. Through his first four games, Rimando leads the league with 19 saves, has won two MLS Save of the Week awards and one Player of the Week award, has a paltry 1.00 Goals Against Average and has registered two shutouts, putting him just two shy of retired goalkeeper Kevin Hartman for the all-time record at 112.

Currently with the U.S. Men's National Team ahead of Wednesday's friendly against Mexico, Rimando has saved at least three points for RSL this season, with his stoppage time penalty kick save on LA forward Robbie Keane preserving RSL’s season opening 1-0 win on March 8 and several big saves at San Jose earning the Claret-and-Cobalt a valuable road point on March 15.

Voting for MLS Player of the Month for March will close quickly, with the polls only open until 12:59 a.m. MT on Thursday morning. Rimando will need your full support if he’s to top such a worthy field - Click here to vote for Nick!
