Real Salt Lake will be West's No. 2 seed in MLS Cup Playoffs

Celebration v. Columbus Crew - 8.24.13

SANDY, UTAH – Real Salt Lake will be the Western Conference’s No. 2 seed in the MLS Cup Playoffs.

After being eliminated from contention for the Supporters’ Shield by Sporting Kansas City’s win at Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon, RSL got locked into the West’s No. 2 seed on Saturday night, with Portland’s 5-0 win at Chivas USA clinching the conference’s top spot for the Timbers and relegating the Claret-and-Cobalt to the second slot.

RSL will take on the West’s third-seed in the Western Conference Semifinals beginning next weekend. LA Galaxy, Seattle Sounders FC and Colorado Rapids are all in contention for the third seed. All three teams play on Sunday, with Colorado taking on Vancouver at BC Place at 6:00 p.m. MT and Seattle hosting LA at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN. A winner in the Seattle-LA match would be the third seed. Should Seattle and LA draw, a Colorado win would make the Rapids the third seed. A Seattle-LA draw combined with a Rapids draw/loss would make LA the third seed.

Real Salt Lake will open the Western Conference Semifinals on the road at the third seed on Saturday, Nov. 2 or Sunday, Nov. 3. The Claret-and-Cobalt will host the third seed in the Western Conference Semifinal second leg at Rio Tinto Stadium on Wednesday, Nov. 6 or Thursday, Nov. 7.

Tickets to RSL’s home leg in the Western Conference Semifinals are currently on sale to current and 2014 RSL PRIDE Season Ticket Holders. Playoff tickets will go on sale to the general public on Monday. Fans interested in purchasing tickets can buy them at the Rio Tinto Stadium box office or over the phone at 801-727-2700.
