Morales Wins Goal of the Week

Javier Morales mesmerized the Chicago Fire defense on Saturday.  Then throughout the week, he dazzled the AT&T Goal of the Week voters at MLSsoccer.com to earn the weekly honors.

With RSL already leading 2-1 in the second half, Morales took a pass from Joao Plata at the edge of the box.  With virtually Chicago’s full roster camped out in the box, it took some fanciness to get around Razvan Cocis to get a shot away.  So Morales feigned a shot with his right, cut to his left and ripped a shot off the inside of the post and in for his second goal of the night and fourth of the season as RSL raced to a 3-1 win.

Morales beat out Toronto FC forward Sebastian Giovinco in the quarterfinal, then a pair of D.c. United defenders in Steve Birnbaum in the semifinal and finally Taylor Kemp to take home the first Goal of the Week honor Real Salt Lake has won this season.

Morales now has 49 goals and 81 assists since coming to Real Salt Lake in 2007, ranking second in club history in goals and first in assists.
