Saborio features as US defeats Costa Rica in Gold Cup play

Beckerman, Beltran, Rimando, Saborio international - 03.26.13

SANDY, Utah - Real Salt Lake forward Alvaro Saborio came off the bench and played 13 minutes on Tuesday night in Costa Rica's 1-0 loss to the U.S. in Hartford in Gold Cup Group C action. RSL Captain Kyle Beckerman, defender Tony Beltran and goalkeeper Nick Rimando did not feature for the U.S., which took home the Group C title with the win.

The match started rather slowly, with neither side carving out many chances in the first half. Things livened up in the second frame, with the U.S. pressing for a goal and eventually finding one through Brek Shea in the 82nd minute. Costa Rica pressed hard for an equalizer - coming close through Saborio on a couple of occassions - but wasn't quite able to find one.

The U.S. finished group play in first in Group C, while Costa Rica finished in second in the group. Both teams will return to action on Sunday in Baltimore, where the U.S. will take on El Salvador in the Quarterfinals and Costa Rica will face Honduras inthe Quarters.
