Real Salt Lake learned on Sunday that it will face Seattle Sounders FC in the Western Conference Semifinals beginning on Nov. 3.
Seattle's 3-1 win over FC Dallas on Sunday night and L.A.'s 2-2 draw at San Jose earlier in the day ensured that RSL will take on Seattle in the West's 2-v-3 seed semifinal. Exactly which seed each team finishes with will be determined in each sides' regular season finale this coming weekend.
This is the second-consecutive year RSL will take on Sounders FC in the playoffs. The Claret-and-Cobalt eliminated Seattle last year, defeating the Cascadia side 3-2 on aggregate in the Western Conference Semifinals.
RSL and Seattle are currently tied for second-place in the West with 56 points. Seattle holds the goals scored tiebreaker over RSL and will likely be able to clinch the second-seed with a win by any margin at L.A. next Sunday. Real Salt Lake will take on fifth-seeded Vancouver Whitecaps FC in its season finale on Saturday at Rio Tinto Stadium.
The Claret-and-Cobalt went 1-0-2 against Seattle in the 2012 regular season, beating Sounders FC 1-0 at CenturyLink Field on May 12, tying Seattle 0-0 at Rio Tinto Stadium on July 4 and drawing the Cascadia side 0-0 in the Pacific Northwest on Oct. 17.
The third-seed will host the first leg of the Western Conference Semis on Nov. 3. The return leg will be at the second-seed on Nov. 7 or Nov. 8. Game times and broadcast information have yet to be determined.
RSL next plays on Tuesday, when it will take on Costa Rican champions C.S. Herediano in a must-win CONCACAF Champions League match at Rio Tinto Stadium.
