RSL sweeps MLS weekly awards

Save-Goal of the Week

Real Salt Lake swept the MLS Goal and Save of the Week awards for the second-straight week on Friday, with forward Alvaro Saborio and goalkeeper Nick Rimando winning the league honors for their play during last Saturday's 4-0 win at Chivas USA.

Saborio - who notched his second hat trick of the year in the Chivas game - won Goal of the Week for his third goal of the match, a fantastic, first-time chip shot over Chivas goalie Dan Kennedy, off the crossbar and into the back of the net. The Costa Rican international's strike easily outpaced the competition, outgaining second-place finisher New York forward Thierry Henry by over 20 percent of the fan vote. This is Saborio's second Goal of the Week award of 2012 and the fourth time a RSL player has taken home the honor.

Rimando won his seventh Goal of the Week award of the season for his leaping, one-handed stop on Chivas USA midfielder Miller Bolaños half-volley. It's the second-straight week and third time in RSL's last three games that Rimando has won the weekly honor. Like Saborio, Rimando crushed his competition in the fan vote, winning nearly 40 percent more of the vote than the second-place finisher, L.A. 'keeper Josh Saunders.

Both Saborio and Rimando will be back in action on Saturday, when RSL takes on the L.A. Galaxy at the Home Depot Center in a match rife with postseason implications. Kickoff for the match is at 7:00 p.m. MT. The game will be broadcast nationally on the NBC Sports Network.
