One week after midfielder Javier Morales took home the award, RSL forward Alvaro Saborio is up for MLS Goal of the Week.
The Costa Rican international is nominated for his third goal in RSL's 4-0 win at Chivas USA over the weekend. The strike was truly majestic, with Saborio collecting a loose ball outside the box, turning his hips to goal and lofting a shot off the bottom of the crossbar and into the right side of the net.
Saborio - who has one Goal of the Week win this year - is up against Toronto's Ryan Johnson, New York's Theirry Henry, San Jose's Steven Lenhart and L.A.'s Marcelo Sarvas for the honor.
The Costa Rican has stretched his lead to nearly 20 percent with less than 24 hours remaining, outpacing Thierry Henry's delicate chip as well as Ryan Johnson's pile driver into the top corner. Will his lead stand up? That's up to you, the voter, to decide.
The winner is determined by the total number of votes cast online and via text and is announced on Fridays. Here's how the voting stands as of Thursday morning:
1. Álvaro Saborío (RSL) 42%
2. Theirry Henry (NY) 23%
3. Ryan Johnson (TOR) 17%
4. Marcelo Sarvas (LA) 13%
5. Steven Lenhart (SJ) 4%
