SANDY, Utah (Friday, September 9, 2011) – It’s back to the road for Real Salt Lake (12-7-6, 42 pts.; 4th in West), which will chase its third straight win tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 10, when it travels to the Pacific Northwest to take on Seattle Sounders FC (13-5-9, 48 pts.; 2nd in West). The matinee kickoff at CenturyLink Field for the pivotal Western Conference showdown is set for 2:00 p.m. MT, and the contest can be followed live on KYMU 2.2 (Comcast 22/Dish Network 12) and radio partners Classic Country 99.1-FM (pre-game coverage begins at 1:00 p.m.), ESPN Deportes 1600-AM and Juan 106.1-FM.
Saturday’s match will be a true “six-pointer” for the two squads looking to climb to the top of the Western Conference standings. Real Salt Lake currently sits six points behind second-place Sounders FC, but the Utah side could make a sizable dent in not only that gap, but the space between it and third-place FC Dallas (46 pts.) as well. The Claret-and-Cobalt enter Week 26 of MLS play with two games in hand on Seattle, FC Dallas and West leader LA Galaxy (52 pts.) with nine games remaining in regular season play.

RSL “Game Note” of the Match: Disappointed in the Pace?
Despite the 2-3-0 August record and the disappointment of home losses to Seattle and Columbus, as well as the lineup carousel due to injury and national team duties, Real Salt Lake’s total of 42 points through 25 games is only five points behind last year’s club-record pace, yet eight points ahead of where the team was at this point in 2009, when it won MLS Cup … In addition, the Claret-and-Cobalt are poised to equal its single-season best in the win column with its next three-point result, as the Utah side is looking to match the 13 wins it posted last year … Totals after Games 25 through 27 during the Kreis era:

RSL History v. Seattle
Real Salt Lake has never defeated the Sounders in Seattle, posting an 0-1-1 mark there in League play, losing 0-2 in the team’s first-ever trip there in 2009, before last season’s scoreless draw at Qwest Field … RSL also dropped a 1-4 US Open Cup match to the Sounders early on in 2009 (at the Starfire Sports Complex) before returning to Seattle and emerging victorious in MLS Cup ’09 against Los Angeles, coming back from an 0-1 deficit and winning a dramatic PK shootout after 120 minutes …
Earlier this year, Seattle visited Rio Tinto Stadium and won 2-1 in a game marred by a Jamison Olave red card, snapping RSL’s 29-game home unbeaten streak against MLS competition … Goals from Sounders DF Patrick Ianni and MF Lamar Neagle gave Seattle a 2-0 lead after the Olave red, while RSL MF Luis Gil notched his first career assist on a MF Nelson Gonzalez goal in the 87th minute for the final margin … The two goals allowed that night matched the total conceded by RSL in the prior 8 matches, while FW Álvaro Saborío (Costa Rica) and M/F Arturo Alvarez (El Salvador) each missed that match due to CONCACAF Gold Cup duty … That result bumped RSL’s record in league play against Sounders FC to 1-2-2, the lone win coming in Sandy back on Aug. 8, 2009 (1-0 W) …
