Saturday’s Official ESPN 700 Watch Parties for RSL-Dynamo
SANDY, Utah (Friday, August 19, 2011)– Real Salt Lake (10-6-6, 36 pts.; 5th in West) will attempt to end its winless streak in the Lone Star State tomorrow, Saturday, August 20, when the Claret-and-Cobalt will contest the middle match of their three-game road trip at the Houston Dynamo (7-7-11, 32 pts., 4th in East). Kickoff from Robertson Stadium on the campus of the University of Houston is set for 6:30 p.m. MT. During the final match in a five-game swing against Eastern Conference competition, the Utah side will be looking to end its ongoing hex in Texas, where RSL has gone a combined 0-14-2 in regular season contests against Houston and FC Dallas since entering the league in 2005.

RSL “Game Note” of the Match: Thirsty for a Goal, But Not

The current RSL road goal-less drought of 307 (MLS) minutes is the fifth-longest in the club’s seven-season history, but ranks less than half as long as the longest in MLS annals … Real Salt Lake’s last away goal came back on June 11 at Philadelphia courtesy of FW Fabian Espíndola, whose 53rd minute counter-attack strike helped RSL achieve a 1-1 draw with the Eastern Conference contenders … The facts, courtesy of Elias Sports Bureau:

RSL History v. Houston
Home is where the success has been for Real Salt Lake against Houston, as the Claret-and-Cobalt have collected a 3-1-4 in Utah contests against the Dynamo but have gained just a single point in the heat and humidity of Houston en route to a 0-6-1 all-time mark in Space City. While the away record might seem jarring, the fact is that RSL has been competitive in every single contest at Robertson Stadium, scoring at least once in each contest while dropping all six defeats by a one-goal margin. Real Salt Lake’s lone draw at the Dynamo came back on June 20, 2009, when Brian Ching’s 89th minute goal salvaged a 1-1 draw for the home side, countering Fabian Espíndola’s score near the half-hour mark.
The two squads began their 2011 season series back on May 14 at Rio Tinto Stadium, where goalkeepers Nick Rimando and Tally Hall both collected clean sheets in a scoreless draw that continued the series of physical battles between the one-time Western Conference rivals.
