SANDY, Utah (Friday, June 24, 2011) – After three draws in three games, Real Salt Lake (6-3-5, 23 pts.; 4th in West) will again seek the full three points at home this Saturday, June 25 when it welcomes Toronto FC (2-6-9, 15 pts.; T-7th in East) to Rio Tinto Stadium.  Kickoff between last year’s CONCACAF Champions League Group A rivals in Sandy, presented by Rio Tinto, is set for 7:00 p.m. MT, with the Carnival Real pre-game festival preceding the contest beginning at 5:00 p.m.


Tickets are still available for Saturday’s matchup between RSL and Toronto FC and can be purchased online at www.RealSaltLake.comor in person at the Rio Tinto Stadium Box Office beginning at 10:00 a.m. on game day.


DMKS & RSL Invite Fans to “Be the Match at the Match” for Jonah Gomez

As part of DKMS’ continual fight against leukemia, the world’s largest bone marrow donation center is teaming up with Major League Soccer to host seven bone marrow donor drives across the country on Saturday, including at Rio Tinto Stadium for RSL’s contest against Toronto FC and the CONCACAF Gold Cup Final in Pasadena, Calif. RSL faithful can stop by two locations at Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday evening – Kennecott Plaza(northwest concourse) and the east concourse overhangbeginning at 6:00 p.m. to complete the simple two-step process of filling out the donation form and swabbing their cheeks for just 10 seconds to see if they could be a possible bone marrow match for the thousands of people suffering from leukemia and similar diseases. Fans that want to give in other ways will also be able to donate to DKMS at both donor sign-up locations on the concourse and at all concessions stands at Rio Tinto Stadium throughout the evening.


Saturday’s drive in Sandy carries special significance for Real Salt Lake, as the organization is teaming with ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” to help its “biggest little fan,” 7-year-old Jonah Gomez of South Jordan, find a match that could help him defeat the odds and overcome his rare form of pediatric leukemia. Jam-Packed Carnival Real Commences Two Hours Prior to Saturday’s Kickoff

Fans and families are encouraged to arrive early for Saturday’s match against Toronto FC, as good times and giveaways are available for the taking at the Carnival Real pre-game festival on the East Lawn of Rio Tinto Stadium, starting at 5:00 p.m. MT.  Courtesy of the Sandy City Exchange Club, the Crescent City Brass Band will provide entertainment on the Carnival stage, while local radio station U92 will provide music for the masses as well.  Entertainment booths and displays will also be hosted by several of RSL’s partners, including:


Burger King (“Whopper Hopper” inflatable and Prize Wheel), Check City, Kentucky Fried Chicken (“Chuckin’ for Chicken), Sandy City Exchange Club (child abuse prevention information), State Farm, U92 (92.5 KUUU-FM), Wasatch Property (“Real Nation” information) and XanGo (free samples).


When gates at Rio Tinto Stadium open to the masses at 6:00 p.m., fans will also have the chance to visit the Ford, Utah Department of Public Safety (“Responsibility Has Its Rewards” sign-up) and Xfinity booths located on the Stadium’s north concourse, as well as the above-mentioned DKMS bone marrow donor drive locations on Kennecott Plaza (Northwest corner) and the east concourse. In addition, fans will be able to chime in with their two cents during the ESPN 700Pre-game Show and visit the RSL Ticketing booth to find out the best ways to keep visiting the best park in Major League Soccer throughout RSL’s 2011 campaign, both of which will be located on the northeast concourse.

Holmes Homes to Be Honored as Saturday’s RSL/American Express “Heroes Among Us”

Real Salt Lake  and American Express are proud to recognize Utah-based Holmes Homes as Saturday’s recipients of the “Heroes Among Us” honor.  Holmes Homes, known throughout the state for building affordable yet luxurious homes, recently partnered with ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” bone marrow donor program DKMS and Real Salt Lake to build an extraordinary home for the family of Jonah Gomez, a 7-year-old RSL fan who has been diagnosed with leukemia. 


Due to his condition, Jonah can’t always pursue his dream of becoming a professional soccer player outdoors, so to help his dream come true, Holmes Homes has included in the Gomez family’s new residence in Rio Tinto’s Daybreak region an indoor soccer facility – complete with Real Salt Lake gear and design. The custom home will be built over the course of the next week while the Gomez family is on vacation at Disneyland.  For their willingness to help make a young child’s life better for him and his family, and for their enthusiasm and dedication to help RSL’s biggest fan, Real Salt Lake and American Express are proud to recognize Patrick Holmes and Spencer Holmes as the latest “Heroes Among Us.”
