RSL History v. Union

Much like this season, Real Salt Lake’s only prior trip to PPL Park last Aug. 11 also came on two days’ rest with several key bodies unavailable, but the Claret-and-Cobalt saw its patchwork line-up battle back after allowing an 8th minute goal by Danny Mwanga to steal a 1-1 draw from the Union. It was Fabian Espíndola notching the equalizer, hushing the boisterous Philly fans with a cool near-post finish past former teammate Chris Seitz in the 17th minute that helped the visitors to a share of the spoils over the then-expansion side. The first-ever contest between the two clubs at Rio Tinto Stadium last May 8 was all Claret-and-Cobalt, as Kyle Beckerman (27’), Jamison Olave (51’) and Álvaro Saborío (70’) provided the goals in an easy 3-0 victory for RSL in Sandy.
