SANDY, Utah (Friday, May 6, 2011) – Real Salt Lake (4-1-0, 12 pts.) will return to the friendly confines of Rio Tinto Stadium tomorrow, Saturday, May 7, when the Claret-and-Cobalt will welcome former assistant coach Robin Fraser and his Chivas USA (2-2-3, 9 pts.) squad to Sandy. Kickoff for Saturday’s matinee is set for 2:00 p.m. MT and will be presented by OhMyCrafts.com, which will give the first 1,000 mothers through the gates a free RSL cinch sack.
Tickets for the first of two “MLS Class of 2005” reunions this season remain available and can be purchased online at www.RealSaltLake.com, over the phone at 801-727-2700 or in person at the Rio Tinto Stadium Box Office Friday from 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. MT and on gameday beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Real Salt Lake enters Saturday’s matinee with a 5-9-4 (20 GF/29 GA) mark against Chivas USA, but the Utah side is 3-2-3 (14 GF/9 GA) at home against the “Goats” since the two teams entered the League together back in 2005. Despite being well under the .500 mark all-time against Chivas USA, Real Salt Lake has controlled the series as of late, going 3-2-1 since their middle meeting of the 2008 campaign. That recent streak included a dramatic 2-1 win last May 22 at The Home Depot Center, courtesy of FW Fabian Espindola’s 89th minute tie-breaker, and a 1-1 draw in their last meeting at Rio Tinto Stadium on July 24.

The April 27 shutout loss to Monterrey (MEX) was eerily reminiscent of the club’s 0-1 loss at Rio Tinto Stadium back in November of 2008 in the Western Conference Final against New York, allowing a goal against the run of play and pressing forward to no avail for long stretches of a dominant second half …
These two heartbreaking losses in knockout competitions – denying RSL the chance to raise a trophy at home in front of its fans – highlight the five times that RSL has been blanked by opponents at Rio Tinto Stadium … Since losing 0-2 to Kansas City on May 16, 2009, RSL has also endured a pair of scoreless draws at home, the last coming on June 25, 2010, against San Jose …
