Head-to-Head: Prior to joining MLS NEXT Pro, Real Monarchs and Whitecaps FC 2 each competed in the U.S. Division II setup, USL Championship. The two clubs consistently played in tight competitions with each match being decided by a margin of one goal, and the Monarchs posting a 1-2-2 (W-L-T) all-time record against the club from up north before WFC2 disbanded in 2017. The clubs’ last match was their first-ever meeting in the newly formed MLS NEXT Pro. The Monarchs and Whitecaps FC 2 played to a 2-2 draw behind two penalty goals from Monarchs Captain Pedro Fonseca. However, WFC2 earned an extra point by winning the shootout 3-1.
The first meeting between Real Monarchs and Whitecaps FC 2 this season was one of two draws that the Monarchs have earned on the season. Despite not earning an extra point in the shootout, the two sides were tied in shots with 10 and the Monarchs led the match in shots on goal with five.
