HERRIMAN, Utah (Sunday, August 23 , 2026) - Real Salt Lake has recalled 2026 homegrown signing Diego Rocío from LIGA MX side Club América after spending the first half of the 2026 MLS campaign in Mexico City.
In his time with Las Águilas, Rocío trained with the First Team and appeared for the reserve squad on multiple occasions. Club América finished eighth in the 2025-26 Clausura portion of its season this spring, clinching playoffs, where it fell to Pumas UNAM in the Quarterfinals.
Las Águilas now sit atop of the Liga MX Apertura table after five matches, also securing a spot in 2026 Leagues Cup knockouts, finishing second amongst Liga MX entrants with seven points after wins over San Diego FC (3-1), Portland Timbers (3-1) and a 1-1 draw and subsequent 5-6 shootout tiebreaker loss to Austin FC.
In 2025, Rocío split time with both Real Monarchs and the RSL Academy during his Beehive State experience, appearing in two matches with Real Monarchs throughout the 2025 campaign. The clinical goalscorer eliminated his former club in the 2025 MLS NEXT Cup Quarterfinal stage, delivering the dagger from the spot in a 3-0 victory over Philadelphia Union’s U18 squad.
Spending time with both the United States Youth National team and Mexico’s Youth National Team setup, the dual-national has most recently been called up to the El Tri U18 squad, notching two appearances in September, 2025.
Real Salt Lake welcomed Club América to America First Field last summer in its opening game of the 2025 Leagues Cup campaign, a 90-minute thriller, ultimately defeating Las Águilas 2-2 (3:1) in a shootout that featured three saves from “The Wall of [Rafa] Cabral”.
After last night's 2-1 loss to Orlando City SC, Real Salt Lake remains on the road for its second match of a three-game road swing, the highly-anticipated Leagues Cup Quarterfinal against Liga MX side Club León in the neutral-site contest Tuesday in Denver. Kickoff on Tuesday, August 25, is set for 8:30 p.m. MT, streaming on Apple TV. Following the Leagues Cup clash, RSL will return to Colorado to face Rocky Mountain Cup rival Colorado Rapids this Saturday, August 29. Kickoff for that match is slated for 7:30 p.m. MT, also streaming on Apple TV.
