Real Salt Lake Developmental Pipeline Announces Seven International Call Ups

HERRIMAN, Utah (Friday, May 30, 2025) - Real Salt Lake announces today that the Club’s developmental pipeline - Real Monarchs of MLS NEXT Pro and the RSL Academy competing in MLS NEXT - will contribute seven players to their respective nations during the upcoming FIFA International window. Those players and their respective youth national teams are: Loic Adjalala (Benin), Gio Calderon (Puerto Rico), Felix Contreras (Mexico), Omar Marquez (Mexico), Van Parker (Canada), Antonio Riquelme (Chile), and Gio Villa (United States) all will participate in this week’s FIFA Window.

Real Monarchs centerbacks Adjalala and Calderon each depart this week to represent their national colors. Adjalala represents Benin in its participation in the West Africa (WAFU) U20 Cup held from June 15-30th. Prior to competing in the tourney, Adjalala will also attend a two-week training camp starting on May 27th.

Calderon returns to Federación Puertorriqueña de Fútbol for the second time since his arrival in the Beehive State, this time suiting up for El Huracán Azul in FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. Head Coach Charlie Trout’s squad will first travel to Suriname to take on the hosts on June 6 before hosting St. Vincent & the Grenadines on June 10.

Contreras and Marquez returned from Mexican duty earlier this week, representing El Tri U17s in the Canteras de Américo event, held in Argentina. After topping group two by earning six points with a plus-five goal differential, Mexico qualified for a spot in the third-place game. After finishing regulation tied with Newell’s Old Boys at 1-1, El Tri edged out NOB, 5-4, in penalties to secure the third-place finish. This marks the first callup that RSL-contracted attacker Marquez has accepted with Mexico since his USYNT switch.

2025 GA Cup champion Parker heads to Guadeloupe with Canada to participate in a 16-team Friendly Tournament hosted by the Guadeloupe FA against opponents determined by a draw. Double-game days take place on May 28/29, followed by two placement matches on May 30/31. The call marks Canada Soccer’s first Men’s U16 National Team gathering since 2015, along with Parker’s first Canuck call-up.

Riquelme joins La Roja for a 12-day training camp in Santiago, Chile, in preparation for the 2025 U17 World Cup. This years’ tourney will be held in Qatar November 3-27 in a competition featuring 48 teams. The Chilean made an impactful professional debut for Real Monarchs earlier this season in the First Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup against El Farolito on March 19 at home. Entering the match as a halftime sub, Riqulme leveled the match 13 minutes into his shift at Zions Bank Stadium. Since his debut, the crafty midfielder has logged four more matches with Real Monarchs in MLS NEXT Pro competition.

RSL-contracted defender Villa returns to Head Coach Gonzalo Segares for the third time this calendar year, receiving a call to the United States Youth National Team U17 squad in Valencia, Spain. USYNT will compete in three friendlies whilst in Spain, opening the international window of play against Sweden on June 5, before playing CONCACAF foe Canada on June 7, and closing out camp against Japan on June 10.

Real Monarchs travel to Southern California to take on first seeded Ventura County FC on Sunday night looking to avenge a 2-1 loss on April 6th in St. George, Utah. Real Salt Lake Academy hits the road for a two-legged weekend, first taking on Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday May 31 before traveling to Canada to take on Vancouver Whitecaps FC on June 1. This weekend’s matches remain crucial for the RSL U16 squad as they eye an at-large bid into next month's MLS NEXT Cup.
