Real Monarchs Travel to City of Roses To Take On Portland Timbers2

HERRIMAN, Utah (Friday, June 23, 2023) - Real Monarchs (4-9-1, 14 pts., 12th West) will travel to the Pacific Northwest to take on division foe Portland Timbers 2 (6-8-0, 18 pts., 11th West) on Sunday, June 25 with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. MT. The Monarchs are in search of their first win since May 26 at Sporting Kansas City II, having gone 0-3-1 since the 1-0 victory. 

Real Monarchs lost to St. Louis CITY2 last Sunday 4-1 at home. St. Louis dominated the match, scoring three first-half goals before Darón Iskenderian scored a penalty kick in the 45’+2nd minute. Despite creating more chances in the second half, the Monarchs were unable to capitalize on their opportunities and dropped their fifth home match of the season. 

Following Sunday's match against Portland Timbers2, Real Monarchs will return home to Herriman to face Austin FC II for the second time this season. Real Monarchs vs Portland Timbers2 Preview:

The two squads faced each other on April 30th at Zions Bank Stadium, a resounding 5-1 win for the Monarchs which featured four different Monarchs goal scorers and a Diego Luna brace. Portland scored the first goal before the Monarchs responded with five unanswered goals, marking the first time in MLS NEXT Pro history that Monarchs came from behind to take all three points. As a result, the Monarchs were named MLS NEXT Pro Team of the Matchday. 

Since the 5-1 result on April 30 the Monarchs are 1-6-1, while Portland has won four of their last nine matches. In that stretch the Monarchs have been outscored by their opponents 20-6, while Portland has a goal differential of zero (14-4). Last year in the inaugural season of MLS NEXT Pro the Monarchs went 2-0-1 against Portland, outscoring Timbers2 9-3 in regulation.
