Real Monarchs Struggle in Tacoma

Real Monarchs 0 vs. 5 Tacoma Defiance

Telling Stat: The Monarchs begin their season with back-to-back shutout defeats, 3-0 to MNUFC2 and 5-0 tonight to Tacoma. The last time the team suffered back-to-back shutout losses was June of last year after losing to St. Louis City 2 and San Jose Earthquakes II. In the first season of MLS NEXT Pro, the Monarchs were held scoreless a total of nine times. In four league matchups with Tacoma Defiance, all four games have resulted in a shutout, with the Defiance winning three of the four. The two teams will face each other again in Herriman, Utah on May 5th. 

What You Missed: Due to changes in the First Team as well as the RSL Academy’s Generation Adidas Cup, several players were called on by the Monarchs to make their professional debut. The list includes Jaxon Stokes, Braydan Morrell, Tyee Allen, Angel Morales, and Marcelo Mondragon. Fernando Delgado also made his return to the Monarchs after featuring for the U-17 Mexican Youth National Team. 

What’s Next?: The Monarchs continue their road trip, traveling to San Jose to face Earthquakes II on Sunday, April 9th at 6:00 pm M.T. The Club will then return to Herriman, Utah to host Sporting KC II at Zions Bank Stadium on Friday, April 14th at 8:00 pm M.T.
