Real Monarchs Shut Out At Home

HERRIMAN, Utah (Friday, April 14, 2023) – Real Monarchs (1-3-0, 3 points) dropped its second home match of the season, falling to Sporting Kansas City II 4-0.

The visitors wasted little time to open up the scoring as Sebastian Cruz struck a shot from long range, finding the top right corner of the goal in the 6th minute, catching Gavin Beavers off his line.

Kansas City continued to apply pressure following the goal, testing the Monarchs defense. Beavers showed off his reflexes in the 18th minute, saving a header from just in front of the net. The U.S. Youth International keeper was called upon again five minutes later, shutting down a 1v1 opportunity after a Kansas City player was through on goal.

SKC II controlled a majority of the possession throughout the first half, leaving no room for the Monarchs to connect in the attacking third. The visitors nearly doubled their lead in first half stoppage time with a header on goal, but the shot sailed above the bar and Kansas City carried a 1-0 lead into the break.

The second half was a continuation of the first, as SKC II continued to dominate possession. In the 54th minute in similarly impressive fashion to the first goal, Kansas City defender Lucas Rosa struck a volley off the ground from well beyond the 18-yard-box, finding the top right corner for the 2-0 lead.

In the 69th minute Sporting Kansas City II added another goal as Andrew Draper dribbled down the touchline, centered a pass to Ethan Bryant who tapped it home. Just two minutes later Pau Vidal found the end of a pass inside the box, giving SKC II a 4-0 lead with 20 minutes to play.

Despite creating a handful of looks on net in the final minutes of the game, the Monarchs were unable to score a consolation goal, dropping the contest 4-0 for the second straight home loss to begin the season.
