Real Monarchs Seeking Back-To-Back Home Wins This Weekend Against Tacoma Defiance

HERRIMAN, Utah (Thursday, May 4, 2023)Real Monarchs (3-3-0, 9 points, 8th in West) remain at home for its second consecutive match at Zions Bank Stadium, hosting Tacoma Defiance on Friday, May 5 at 8:00 p.m. MT. 

The Monarchs are seeking its first back-to-back home wins of the season and a third-consecutive win overall. The team is fresh off a dominant come-from-behind 5-1 victory thanks to a brace from RSL Homegrown Diego Luna, as well as goals from Ilijah Paul, Terron Williams and Tyrone Mondi. 

During the 2022 season the Monarchs finished the year with six straight victories at home, including a 1-0 win over Tacoma Defiance. The match saw former RSL Homegrown Tate Schmitt score in the seventh minute to take the 1-0 lead and a strong performance in goal by RSL Homegrown Gavin Beavers to preserve the shutout. 

Friday’s match, as well as all Real Monarchs matches this season, will be streamed live via www.MLSnextPro.com and through MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.

2023 Records: Real Monarchs (3-3-0, 9 points); Tacoma Defiance (3-1-1, 11 points)

Head-to-Head: Friday’s match marks the second time this season the two sides have faced each other, the first being on April 2 in Tacoma, Washington. The home team took the 5-0 win with goals from Barudilio Rodriguez, Hal Uderitz, Eythor Bjorgolsson and a brace from Aboulaye Cissoko. The Monarchs, however, were without several starters, in comparison to last week’s match against Timbers 2 only five of those players were available against Tacoma. Overall, the Monarchs are 1-3-0 against the Tacoma Defiance, with all three losses coming on the road.
