Real Monarchs Fall 4-0 In Physical Battle With North Texas SC

ARLINGTON, Texas (Friday, August 12, 2022) – Real Monarchs (3-14-2,11 points) fell on the road 4-0 to North Texas SC. While the score was knotted at halftime, the Texans poured in four goals during the second half to secure the victory.

The game started with North Texas controlling the tempo and putting pressure on the Monarchs’ defense. In the 7th minute, forward Hope Aveyevu played the ball through to Isaiah Parker, but Real Salt Lake Homegrown goalkeeper Gavin Beavers made a big save to keep things level. Beavers made another big save in the 26th minute when Bernard Kamungo tried to flick it to the far post from close range.

The Monarchs looked to take the lead in the 30th minute when Tyrone Mondi slotted the ball ahead to Pedro Fonseca inside the box, but the Brazilian’s shot hit the crossbar and bounced away. Mondi had a shot of his own in the 36th minute after he scorched past multiple defenders before getting his shot blocked by North Texas goalkeeper Juan Carrera.

North Texas had a flurry of chances just before halftime, but good defense and another save from Beavers kept both sides tied 0-0 heading into the break.

The home side started the second half with some heavy pressure and looked to take the lead in the 55th minute when Jose Mulato dispossessed Golden Mafwenta for a one-on-one with Beavers, but Mulato’s shot soared over the crossbar and out of play. In the 63rd minute, North Texas was awarded a penalty kick, and Mulato punched it into the back of the net for the first goal of the match.

The Texans doubled the lead in the 70th minute when Hope Avayevu tapped in a rebound that spilled out of Beavers’ hands. Ten minutes later the Monarchs conceded another penalty kick, this time Kamungo stepped up and fired it inside the left post to extend the lead to 3-0. The home side scored one more time before the final whistle as a rebound off the post fell to the feet of Pablo Torre who rocketed a shot into the back of the net, making the final score 4-0.
