HOUSTON, Texas (Sat., August 8, 2026) — Real Monarchs (6-12-4, 26 pts, 11th West) drop their fourth consecutive match, falling on the road at Houston Dynamo 2 (13-4-3, 45 pts, 2nd West) at SaberCats Stadium. The loss was highlighted by a professional debut for RSL Academy callup Isaac Murphy, the young midfielder substituting on in the 68th minute.
Real Monarchs faced an early obstacle, as rookie defender Dylan Kropp was ejected in the game’s fifth minute, a straight red card given as a result of a tackle from behind at the top of its own defensive box. The resultant free kick saw Real Monarchs goalkeeper Trace Alphin then produce a superb save down to his left to keep the score momentarily level at 0-0.
Houston Dynamo 2 broke the deadlock in the 16th minute, when a dangerous cross from the edge of the area found the head of an onrushing left wingback, who directed the ball into the net for the opening goal. Just three minutes later, in the 19th minute, Dynamo 2 doubled its advantage with a long-range, left-footed effort that caught Alphin off his line, dooming the Monarchs to a 2-0 road deficit.
Late into first-half stoppage time, Salt Lake had a brilliant chance to pull one back, a free kick met by an equally-excellent save by the Houston goalkeeper.
After Real Monarchs went down to nine men, as a result of a Nico Silva straight red, Houston found the net for a third time. The Dynamo 2 attacker spun past two Monarchs defenders before crossing the ball to the back post, where Bell scored an easy tap-in.
Real Monarchs return home this Friday, August 14, where it will play against Minnesota United 2 at Zions Bank Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 3:30pm MT.
