Man of the Match: Midfielder Pedro Fonseca led the team on the scorer’s sheet, recording the Monarchs’ lone goal of the night. Fonseca also led the team in shots on target with two. The Brazilian’s goal was his sixth of the season, the most of any Real Monarchs player this year, fellow midfielder Tyrone Mondi is in second with four. This was Fonseca’s fourth penalty kick goal of the year, he is three for three from the spot during the regular season, while also adding one during the MLS NEXT Pro Invitational against Chelsea FC.

Telling Stat: Tonight’s starting lineup only featured four teenagers the youngest lineup Head Coach Jamison Olave has utilized this season. The teenagers included Aziz Kayondo (19 years old), Axel Kei (14 years old), Diego Luna (18 years old) and Jaziel Orozco (18 years old). However, three of Olave’s five substitutes were teenagers, including Abokye Bikyeombe (17 years old), Benjamin Rodriguez (19 years old) and Terron Williams (17 years old).

What You Missed: Real Monarchs fell on the road to San Jose Earthquakes II 3-1 in its return to MLS NEXT Pro play. The Monarchs took an early lead off of Pedro Fonseca’s goal from the spot, but the home side responded with three unanswered goals, including a brace from forward Rodolfo Castro. Real Salt Lake Homegrown Zack Farnsworth made his first appearance in regular-season action since suffering an ankle injury almost 15 months ago, and forward Rubio Rubin made his first MLS NEXT Pro appearance.
