Fonseca Leads Second-Half Comeback for the Monarchs

Man of the Match: Midfielder Pedro Fonseca was dominant in the attack for Real Monarchs, facilitating the second-half comeback to secure the road point in the team’s final away match of the season. Fonseca earned two assists in the 2-2 draw, setting up both goals for the Club. The Brazilian was consistently leading the second-half ambush, leading the Monarchs in key passes with three and nearly finding the net himself with two shots on target. Additionally, Fonseca netted his kick from the penalty spot in the shootout to help secure the additional point. 

Telling Stat: With tonight’s draw, Real Monarchs extend its undefeated streak to four matches, the longest unbeaten streak for the Club this season. The Monarchs have earned nine of 12 possible points as well as three of the Club’s four road points this season during this span. Real Monarchs also won two matches at home in this four-game streak as part of a seven-game home unbeaten streak at home across all competitions. Additionally, the Club won its first shootout in MLS NEXT Pro 4-3.

What You Missed: On the final road trip of the season, Real Monarchs ended San Jose Earthquakes II playoff hopes with a 2-2 draw and secured the additional point, winning 4-3 in kicks from the penalty spot for the first time this season. RSL Homegrown Axel Kei starred in the match with a goal and assist while defender Aziz Kayondo found the back of the net for the first time in MLS NEXT Pro. Midfielder Pedro Fonseca tied Kei for the Club lead in assists, earning two more on the season.
