Mr. Hansen initially joined the RSL ownership group in October 2009, spending three years as a minority partner before acquiring full ownership of the team in January 2013. Since joining the RSL ownership ranks, Mr. Hansen has worked closely the management team regarding the direction and strategy of each business unit, as well as the potential real estate development around Rio Tinto Stadium.

“Just over three years ago, I was very proud to join Dave Checketts in the world of Real Salt Lake and Major League Soccer,” Mr. Hansen said after acquiring the team outright in January 2013. “Today, the chance to further deepen my participation in the growth of professional soccer in North America is incredibly exciting. My enthusiasm for this sport started long ago with my family, and now I am proud that our investment now includes the entire Real Salt Lake family – starting with our incredible fan base – as we work together representing the great State of Utah.”

Personal success is at the root of the Academy experience and reflects Mr. Hansen’s core values.

Under former Utah Gov. Michael Leavitt, Hansen served nine years on the State’s Board of the Department of Business and Economic Development, two of those years as Chairman. During that time he came to appreciate the great business opportunities that exist in Utah.
