Susan Stevens

Heroes Among Us

Real Salt Lake and American Express are proud to have recognized Susan Stevens as the recipient of the “Hero Among Us” honored on May 6, 2017. Stevens was recognized for her involvement and dedication to the YWCA.

The YWCA is a voice for women, a force for change, and a place for hope. The YWCA has been established for over 100 years and has dedicated its resources to eliminating racism, empowering women, and to promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. They also provide a safe place for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Susan Stevens is commonly known as the “chocolate volunteer” because she keeps the front desk candy jar stocked and greets the women who come to the doors of the Salt Lake Family Justice Center with a friendly face and a calming presence. She understands the danger and trauma these women are feeling and greets every individual with warmth and encouragement.

Stevens keeps the YWCA office running efficiently but also takes great care in building meaningful relationships with everyone in the office. She listens and empowers her coworkers every day. The YWCA would like to thank Susan for her volunteer work. She is resilient, compassionate, and as passionate about serving others as she is of serving and loving her own family. Stevens motto is to “Be the squeaky wheel, for in doing so your voice will be heard.”
