Real Salt Lake and American Express are proud to have recognized, Juanita Ramos as the recipient of the “Heroes Among Us” honor on August 6, 2016. Our hero comes to us from the Salt Lake Chamber Women’s Business Center (WBC), a nonprofit organization that provides low cost in-person and online training, free individual business consultation and networking opportunities for women entrepreneurs. Our hero has been an ultimate example of what a true women’s business owner should be and with the guidance she received from the great leaders of the WCB, She was able to start and run her own company. Juanita’s company, m2m resource development group, specializes in project development which fundraises and connects people and resources. Their goal is to help non-profit organizations, small businesses and native groups. With many successful contact offers from government organizations, non-profits, and private consulting services, our Hero has been a positive force on the community. Our hero has been so grateful for the continued education and support the WBC has provided to her, and she has made it her mission to give back by constantly volunteering at the WBC.
Real Salt Lake and American Express are proud to have recognized Leandro Gaviño as the recipient of the “Heroes Among Us” honor on August 20, 2016. Our hero comes to us from the Pete Suazo business center. Founded in 2002 in memory of Pete Suazo, Utah’s first latino state senator, it was created as a business resource committed to the development and empowerment of the latino/hispanic and other underserved communities. Throughout his life, our hero has worked many different jobs doing whatever it took to provide for his family. The Suazo center took Leandro under their wing to mentor him in business through seminars and classes on business plans development, accounting, personal finances and marketing. The skills he learned helped our hero open his first business, gavinos agricultural products, and not long after, our hero and his brothers opened their own landscaping company which provides professional services of ground maintenance during all seasons. The last two years of hard work have paid off as our hero’s family is now able to enjoy a better quality of life and he can also help provide jobs to the community.
Real Salt Lake and American Express are proud to have recognized the Ashby family as the recipient of the “Heroes Among Us” honor on August 26, 2016. Our heroes come to us from The Children’s Center here in Salt Lake City, an organization that provides comprehensive mental health care to enhance the emotional well-being of infants, toddlers, preschoolers and their families. Our heroes met nearly 26 years ago when they both started volunteering and working for The Children’s Center. Over the years working together, there was an admiration and respect for each other which began to grow and led into something more and in 2003, our heroes became married. Over the next couple years they both discussed starting a family of their own through the adoption process and in 2005, our heroes identified a young girl named Tashena who was in and out of foster-to-adopt situations. They immediately recognized her and both decided this was the place their family would start. She is now 15 years old, passionate about music/dance and a gifted athlete. In 2008 the Ashbys decided it was time for their family to grow again when they meet Sean at the age of 3. There was something special about this little boy even though he had very tough and aggressive outer shell from his past experiences. Our heroes adopted Sean and he has been a great addition to their family. Sean is now 11 years old and has the biggest and sweetest heart. He is also very athletic and he loves camping, outdoors and technology.
