MLS Save of the Year: Vote Nick Rimando

Nick Rimando has long been among the best goalkeepers in MLS – and was voted the best goalkeeper in league history in an MLSsoccer.com poll earlier this season.  This year, he made some spectacular saves and two are candidates for MLSsoccer.com Save of the Year.

One came in a home victory over the Houston Dynamo, when a ball pinged off the post to Andrew Wenger at the edge of the six-yard box.  He rocketed his putback attempt and Rimando was in perfect position to make the reaction save – albeit with his face – to preserve the victory.

The other came in a road win over New York City FC as David Villa was spun a low-angle shot that looked bound for the far post early in the match, only to have the “Wall of the Wasatch” dive to his right to get a glove to it for the spectacular save.

Rimando finished the season with an 11-9-10 record and broke numerous league records throughout the season, including becoming that all-time leader in wins, now with 183 in his illustrious career.
