If The Season Ended Today: Week 32 Edition

We have reached the penultimate weekend in MLS and there is still everything to play for in both conferences as teams jockey for position in the MLS Cup Playoffs.

Here is a look at how the postseason would shake out if the season ended today.

Real Salt Lake (12-11-9, 45 points) dropped to fifth place in the Western Conference and would face Seattle Sounders FC (13-13-7, 45 points) at CenturyLink Field in the Knockout Round.  Though the two teams are equal on points, Seattle holds the tie-breaker with more wins.

FC Dallas (16-8-8, 56 points) and the Colorado Rapids (14-5-12, 54 points) hold the top two positions and would start their playoff runs in the Western Conference Semifinals.  The LA Galaxy (11-6-15, 48 points) isn’t far behind in third, but cannot catch either Dallas or Colorado for those top positions, as Colorado has more wins than LA can attain.  So the Galaxy would host sixth-seeded Sporting Kansas City (12-13-7, 43 points) in the Knockout Round.

The Portland Timbers (11-13-8, 41 points) and San Jose Earthquakes (8-10-13, 37 points) are still in contention for playoff spots, but would need a lot of results to fall their way to reach the postseason.
