Real Salt Lake capped the first phase of its training schedule ahead of next week’s regular season home finale against Sporting Kansas City with a scrimmage on Saturday at the club’s training ground at America First Field in Sandy. The three days of training featured some competitive sessions and reached the climax on Saturday with the intrasquad match.
Head Coach Jeff Cassar used a good rotation of players throughout the 70-minute scrimmage and got an opportunity to see different players working with different groups while also keeping the competitive rhythm during a bye weekend. In the game, the group made up primarily of regular starters won 3-0, with Kyle Beckerman, Yura Movsisyan and Luke Mulholland scoring the three goals. Movsisyan also contributed an assist on Beckerman’s goal, as the forward works his way back from a bone bruise in his left heel that has been troublesome over the last two weeks and limited him to just 14 minutes over the last two matches.
The match featured a slew of Real Monarchs players in addition to the players on Real Salt Lake’s roster.
