Maund Earns Team of the Week Honors After Shutout of New England

Real Salt Lake earned its first shutout since April 17 on Saturday in a scoreless draw with the New England Revolution.  On the heels of that performance and a 2-0 defeat on the road against Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Wednesday, RSL defender Aaron Maund was named to the MLSsoccer.com Team of the Week for the second time this season, making him the second two-time recipient of the honor.

Maund had 10 interceptions and seven clearances between the two matches, keying an RSL defense that kept New England forward and 2015 MLS MVP finalist Kei Kamara without a shot on goal.

“It was starting to wear on our minds a little bit and it was good to get that shutout; a performance to build off defensively for sure,” Maund said, noting some keys to the clean sheet.  “I think our awareness and being proactive when the ball went wide. That’s when they come alive. So we were trying to beat them to every ball and we were pretty successful tonight.”

Joining Maund on Team of the Week were goalkeeper Luis Robles (New York Red Bulls); defenders Axel Sjoberg (Colorado Rapids) and Victor Bernardez (San Jose Earthquakes); midfielders Andreas Ivanschitz (Seattle Sounders FC), Mauro Diaz (FC Dallas), Diego Valeri (Portland Timbers), Sacha Kljestan (New York Red Bulls) and Fabian Castillo (FC Dallas); and forwards David Villa (New York City FC) and Giovani dos Santos (LA Galaxy).
