Rimando's Acrobatic Stop Up for Save of the Week

Rimando and Mulholland vs CLB 0528

The duel between Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando and Columbus Crew SC forward Ola Kamara made from some exciting highlights as Kamara finished the match on Saturday with a hat trick in a 4-3 defeat for RSL.  However, Rimando had his share of highlights as well, and one is up for MLSsoccer.com’s Save of the Week.

Early in the second half, Columbus midfielder Federico Higuain worked his way up the left side and crossed the ball across the edge of the six-yard box to Kamara fading toward the far post.  With Rimando covering the near post for a potential shot from Higuain, that left acres of space in an open net behind him.  However, an acrobatic Rimando covered just enough of that acreage to swat away Kamara’s first-time effort to keep the score at 2-1.

Rimando finished the match with six saves, giving him 41 saves in 10 matches this season, good for sixth in MLS despite playing in fewer matches than all but one of the players that rank above him.
