Nick Rimando was robbed last week on MLSsoccer.com’s Save of the Week when his double-save against the Houston Dynamo was ousted in the first round. Now, Rimando is back at it again with another point-blank save, this time against the Colorado Rapids.
Down 1-0 in the 51st minute, RSL was defending a Colorado corner kick. Shkelzan Gashi sent the ball into the mixer and amidst a scramble, Bobby Burling got his right foot to it and put a shot on frame. Always on his toes, Rimando was ranging to his left, but had to leave his right foot behind to make the reaction save.
The tremendous stop kept RSL within striking distance of the Rapids, though the equalizing goal never came in RSL’s first scoreless match of the season.
