Real Salt Lake needed a moment of brilliance on Saturday night and got just that in a 1-0 win over Vancouver Whitecaps FC. In the 55th minute, Juan Manuel Martinez took a pass from Joao Plata on the left side, cut it back to his right foot and ripped a shot past Vancouver goalkeeper David Ousted for the lone goal of the match as RSL remained unbeaten at 4-0-2.
The goal, Martinezās first of the year, is up for AT&T Goal of the Week.
āIt was an important score but itās more important for you to score to win a game,ā Martinez said.
Martinez is the seventh different RSL player to score this season, led by the four goals and four assists from Joao Plata. Now with the defensive side ironing out some of the wrinkles from the opening matches, the team is on a three-game winning streak.
āWe have a very good team,ā Martinez said. āWith a good keeper and defense and at the moment, weāve scored every game. When you score every game you have a good chance to win.ā
