Save of the Week: Rimando's Alert Stop Earns Nomination

Real Salt Lake earned its first shutout of the season on Saturday, but it wasn’t without some heroic efforts.  While Aaron Maund’s stellar stop on the line was one thing, but goalkeeper Nick Rimando’s stop in first-half stoppage time save on Luis Solignac to keep the match scoreless that is up for MLS Save of the Week.  It was one of five saves for Rimando, who earned his 124th career MLS shutout, extending his all-time record.

With the seconds winding down in the first half, Colorado played a ball in behind Real Salt Lake’s defense and Solignac ran onto it for the 1v1 opportunity.  Rimando sprung off his line and met Solignac 12 yards out on the left angle and blocked the shot off Solignac’s foot to preserve the clean sheet

“It’s another good thing to check off in a good start for us.  But we’d like to improve,” Real Salt Lake midfielder and captain Kyle Beckerman said after the match.  “We want to keep getting better.  It’s important to get three points at home, but as a team we want to get better, we want to be more dominant at home, so we’ll work on it this week and see if we can get another shutout next week.”
