A range of emotions filled the Real Monarchs 2016 home opener on Saturday night. On loan from Real Salt Lake, Omar Holness went down in the 35th minute with an apparent seizure. Both teams screamed franticly for medical assistance to rush onto the field to help a fellow brother.

Matt Montgomery from RSL Soapbox shared with RSL supporters the unnerving moment and how the rest of the game panned out. With a delay of roughly 20 minutes, the decision had to be made if the game should be stopped or go on.

“When they asked us if we wanted to continue, I said ‘Let’s do it. It’s what Omar would want. We’ve got to get these three points for him and leave it all out there,” teammate Devon Sandoval said.

Which is exactly what they did.  And by fighting until the end, in the 90th minute Maikon Orellana boosted the Monarchs to a 1-0 win over St Louis FC.
