Top 10 of 2015: Rimando Stands Out

Our journey through Real Salt Lake’s Top 10 stories of 2015 continues with the Wall of the Wasatch.

At No. 4 we find Nick Rimando again standing tall in front of the RSL net.

In 2015, Rimando again shuffled his time between RSL and the U.S. National Team, starting 24 matches with the Claret-and-Cobalt and playing five matches with the Stars-and-Stripes.  The veteran shot-stopper led the league with a 1.00 goals against average while also notching eight shutouts and a record of 8-9-7.  He also continued to push the narrative that he is a wizard in penalty kick situations, allowing just five goals in eight PK opportunities this season.  With RSL, he has allowed 26 PK goals in 43 attempts (60.5%) and 64.4% (47-of-73) in his career.  In addition, he extended his CONCACAF Champions League shutout streak to 526 consecutive minutes with his two clean sheets in helping RSL advance to the Quarterfinal Round.

He continues to be the gold standard among MLS goalkeepers extending his all-time best shutout mark to 123 career clean sheets.

For his efforts and his visibility in Salt Lake City, Rimando was featured on the cover of the Salt Lake City Weekly’s Best of Utah 2015 edition, which hit newsstands on Wednesday.
