Luke Mulholland had quite a day on Sunday. After scoring the game-winning goal in the 43rd minute in a 2-1 win over the Colorado Rapids in a nationally televised match that kept RSL in the playoff hunt, he was nominated for Goal of the Week and earned MLSsoccer.com Team of the Week honors for the first time this season.
Mulholland has three goals on the season and he is the eighth RSL player to earn Team of the Week selection.
“I think for the most part we finished our chances. We had a couple of chances to get a third goal which we would have liked, but instead we had a nervous ending. Sometimes, you just need a bit of luck as well on your side and I think we got that tonight,” Mulholland said after the win. “We had that commitment as well from the guys to throw their bodies on the line, and that’s what they have to do sometimes and we got lucky we were able to get three points. We’re surviving.”
He was joined on Team of the Week by goalkeeper Tim Melia (Sporting Kansas City); defenders Brek Shea (Orlando City SC), Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy), Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City) and Connor Lade (New York Red Bulls); midfielders Fabian Castillo (FC Dallas), Harry Shipp (Chicago Fire) and Jonathan Osorio (Toronto FC); and forwards Gilberto (Chicago Fire) and David Texeira (FC Dallas).
Defender Jamison Olave and goalkeeper Nick Rimando were both on the bench for the week’s honorees.
