Rimando among finalists for Save of the Week

Nick Rimando needed just two saves in Real Salt Lake’s 2-1 win over Sporting Kansas City on Sunday.  One earned him a nomination for MLS Save of the Week, as he stifled SKC forward Dom Dwyer on a close-range header in the second half, allowing for Olmes Garcia’s stoppage-time goal to count as a game-winner.

On  the second-half shot, Dwyer got on the end of a ball from the right side heading it back across goal from the left side and seeming to beat Rimando, who had the near post covered.  But his lightning-fast reflexes sent him sprawling back to his left to spear the shot out of the air for the remarkable save.

That landed Rimando among the nominees for MLS Save of the Week in Week 16.

Previously, Rimando won the honor in Week 1 and Week 6, with teammate Jeff Attinella winning in Week 8.
