News Stand: Late goal lifts RSL over rivals

Garcia celebration vs SKC 0621

News Stand 6/22/15

Right before Sunday’s heated match up with rivals Sporting KC, star striker Alvaro Saborio was a late scratch from the lineup.  Despite this bad news, RSL was able to get a goal from Sebastian Jaime and a stoppage-time goal from Olmes Garcia to come away with three points.

Tyler Gray of MLSsoccer.com writes, “(RSL) forced to reiterate the same ‘work hard, and the results will come’ mantra they’ve been repeating for much of their underwhelming season.  No longer, with the team admitting that Sunday’s victory against their bitter rival meant a little bit more than a normal win.”

Defender Tony Beltran said, “I mean, I don’t want to say yes but I think so.  We wanted to win that game. We wanted to win that game just because we needed the three points here.”

After a solid victory against their bitter rivals, RSL looks to continue its push towards the playoffs. To read the full article on MLSsoccer.com and other news about Real Salt Lake, click on the links below.
