Rimando's kick-save against Vancouver earns Save of the Week nomination

When a player like Octavio Rivero gets one-v-one with the goalkeeper, the result more often than not is a goal.  On Saturday at B.C. Place, though, he ran into The Wall of the Wasatch.

In the 60th minute of Real Salt Lake’s matchup with Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Rivero was sprung behind the RSL defense by a ball over the top from Matias Laba.  Left all alone to defend the Uruguayan striker, who has six goals to his credit this season, RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando used cat-like reflexes to stone him with a foot-save to keep him off the board.

That landed Rimando among the nominees for MLS Save of the Week in Week 13.

Previously, Rimando won the honor in Week 1 and Week 6, with teammate Jeff Attinella winning in Week 8.
