The win over New York City FC on Saturday wasn’t just about the return of Jason Kreis, it was also a showcase of all the hard work RSL and their players have been doing to get back to form this season.
Along with a 2-0 win, Real Salt Lake saw several key players step back onto the field. In Sean Walker’s article for KSL.com he writes, “Indeed, the game that represented so much of RSL’s past seemed to point to a potentially bright future for the club, showing a group that is getting healthier, stronger and more confident in its youth.”
Stertzer started off the scoring in the 25th minute with his first career MLS goal before being replaced by Javier Morales, who returned after dealing with a concussion. In Walker’s article he quotes Jeff Cassar saying, “I think you can see what we can do when we have a full arsenal of players, we take one off and we replace him and we’re strong – or at least fresher. We finished with as much quality as we started.”
“The roar of the crowd was at its peak, however, when Plata stripped off his warm ups and trotted onto the field from the center line for the first time this season,” writes Walker.
