Save of the Week nomination - Nick Rimando

Moments don’t come much bigger than stoppage-time penalties with the result of the match hanging in the balance.

So when Nick Rimando saved Juninho’s PK in the dying moments of last Wednesday’s 0-0 draw with the LA Galaxy at Rio Tinto Stadium, it wasn’t just a remarkable stop that kept alive a string of Rimando PK saves over the last three seasons, but also assured Real Salt Lake would earn a point from the match.  That save, a diving stop to Rimando’s left to thwart the would-be go-ahead tally, is a finalist for the MLSsoccer.com Save of the Week after Rimando had a stellar week in front of the net for RSL in earning four points from two matches.

“Always going to save it, always.  I mean, the guy is incredible.  He’s clutch,” defender Tony Beltran said.  “Hands down he’s the greatest keeper to play in this league and it’s a pleasure to play in from of him.  Every time someone steps up against him, I’m always thinking about, alright get in position, Nick’s going to save it, get in position.”

Rimando previously won Save of the Week honors in Week 1 and Week 6 and teammate Jeff Attinella won in Week 8.
