US U23 and U20 callups 0420

SANDY, Utah – Real Salt Lake has announced that three players have joined various U.S. National Teams in a busy year at all levels on the international calendar.

The U-23 National Team will feature MF Luis Gil and DF Boyd Okwuonu, while FW Jordan Allen joined up with the U-20 National Team in Austria in a camp that already started on Saturday.

U.S. U-23 Men’s National Team Head Coach Andi Herzog called 20 players to Carson, Calif., for the U-23’s first domestic training camp of 2015 as the team continues its preparations for qualifying for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.  The team already began training on Sunday and will face Mexico’s U-23 National Team on Wednesday at the StubHub Center.  The match will be broadcast live at 9 p.m. MT on UniMás and Univision Deportes Network.

Gil and Okwuonu both started in two friendlies last month against Bosnia and Denmark, with Gil captaining the squad in both matches.  Gil has started in four of his five appearances with Real Salt Lake this season while Okwuonu has started four matches for Real Monarchs in the USL.

Meanwhile, U.S. U-20 National Team Head Coach Tab Ramos has called in 20 players for the U-20’s second foreign training camp of the year in Linz, Austria.  During camp, the U-20s will play friendly matches against Qatar on Tuesday and Croatia on Saturday.

Allen has started in two of his six appearances for RSL this season, scoring his first MLS goal on March 29, a game-winner against Toronto FC at Rio Tinto Stadium.

Both Gil and Okwuonu are expected to be available for Real Salt Lake in its next match on Saturday against the New England Revolution.
