Beckerman a finalist in prestigious local award voting

We are in the final week of voting in the fourth annual Utah Governor’s State of Sports Awards and the final chance to ensure that Real Salt Lake midfielder and captain Kyle Beckerman can outlast the competition in the best Pro/Olympian Male Athlete category.

Beckerman is one of eight nominees in his category after he captained RSL to a seventh consecutive playoff appearance and fifth consecutive season of at least 15 wins and 50 points.  He also represented the U.S. National Team at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, where he started all three Group Stage matches as the U.S. advanced out of the “Group of Death” to the Round of 16.

The winners of the Governor’s State of Sport Awards will be determined by an online vote at http://www.stateofsportawards.com/.  The 10 winners of the State of Sport Awards will be announced at an awards dinner on April 21 at EnergySolutions Arena in downtown Salt Lake City.  Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert will speak at the ceremony and present awards to all 10 winners.  Late night TV show host and comedian Jay Leno will be a special guest at the event, along with this year’s lifetime achievement winner, Stein Eriksen.
