Javier Morales is catching fire in the first four matches of the MLS season. With two goals and three assists, he has provided highlights galore and on Sunday his wonder strike against the San Jose Earthquakes earned him a nomination for MLSsoccer.com’s Goal of the Week.
He struck a free kick off the wall in the 44th minute and it caromed back – purportedly off the arm of San Jose defender Victor Bernardez – and Morales thundered in the second effort, bouncing it off the crossbar and in for what proved to be the match-winner.
“I didn’t see, but the guys said it was a pretty good goal,” Morales smiled after the game. “My first thought was ‘Penalty,’ then I said maybe I’ll (shoot) it.”
