RSL re-signs defenders Maund and Mansally

Abdoulie Mansally vs Dallas

SANDY, Utah  – Real Salt Lake announced on Friday that it has re-signed defenders Abdoulie Mansally and Aaron Maund.  Per league and club policy, financial terms of the deal will not be announced.

Both players provided depth to the RSL back line in 2014 and will continue to compete for playing time in 2015.

"As a staff, we were happy with the contributions of our defensive depth and keeping guys like Aaron and Abdoulie involved in that defensive core was important this offseason," said RSL Technical Director Craig Waibel.

Mansally, 25, came to RSL in 2012, making the move from the New England Revolution, where he spent the first five seasons of his career starting in 2007.  In addition to the transition from the Revs to RSL, he also continued the shift from forward, where he had scored seven goals in three seasons with New England, to left back.

In 2014, Mansally played 655 minutes while making six starts in 11 appearances.  In three seasons with the Claret-and-Cobalt, he has appeared in 30 matches, making 19 starts.  In his MLS career, spanning eight seasons, he has seven goals and seven assists in 119 games played, including 66 starts.  Internationally, he has eight caps for The Gambia after progressing through the U-17 and U-20 teams.

For his work with the Mansally Foundation, he was named RSL’s Humanitarian of the Year.

Maund, 24, enters his third season with Real Salt Lake after spending his rookie campaign with Toronto FC.  The 12th overall pick in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft, Maund started in nine of his 15 appearances for Toronto in 2012.  After that season, RSL acquired the Notre Dame product in a trade, sending forward Justin Braun in the swap.

In two seasons with RSL, Maund has played in nine matches, making eight starts.  He started in five of his six appearances in 2014, making Head Coach Jeff Cassar’s starting XI in the opening two matches of the season.  In his six matches this season, Salt Lake went 4-1-1.

Maund represented the U.S. at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2009 and Trinidad and Tobago at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2007.
