SANDY, Utah – Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando has been nominated for MLS Save of the Week!
Rimando is nominated for his one-handed denial of San Jose midfielder Atiba Harris in the 43rd minute of RSL’s 1-1 draw with the Quakes at Buck Shaw Stadium last Saturday. Harris got the ball at the center of the box and fired a shot to the bottom left corner that looked ticketed for the back of the net, but Rimando came up big with a diving, one-handed save to push the ball off the line and keep the match level.
This week, Rimando is up against Portland Timbers goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts, D.C. ‘keeper Bill Hamid, Colorado ‘keeper Joe Nasco and Chivas USA goalkeeper Dan Kennedy.
RSL has a total of five Save of the Week wins this season, with Rimando winning back-to-back MLS Save of the Weeks for week one and two, as well as week 21. RSL backup goalkeeper Jeff Attinella took home the award in weeks 11 and 13.
