SANDY, Utah – Real Salt Lake learned today that it will begin its 2014 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup run on the road. RSL will enter the tournament in the fourth round, with a U.S. Soccer coin flip today determining that the Claret-and-Cobalt will travel to face the winner of the third round matchup between the NASL’s Atlanta Silverbacks and the NPSL’s Chattanooga FC.

The fourth round will take place from June 10-18. Chattanooga will host Atlanta in the tournament’s third round on May 28. Home teams will determine the exact dates of the fourth-round games from among the visiting teams’ available dates. RSL will play its final MLS game prior to the league’s three week World Cup break on June 7, when the club will host Portland Timbers at Rio Tinto Stadium. RSL won’t return to MLS action until June 28, when it will travel to Southern California to take on Chivas USA.

Real Salt Lake finished runners-up in the 2013 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, beating Atlanta, USL-PRO club Charleston Battery, NASL club Carolina RailHawks and Portland before falling 1-0 to D.C. United in the Open Cup Final on Oct. 1. RSL played all five of its 2013 Open Cup matches at home, winning U.S. Soccer’s coin flip before every round to earn hosting privileges.

The 2014 Open Cup will be the 101st edition of the tournament. The tournament champion will earn a berth in to the 2015-16 CONCACAF Champions League and a $250,000 cash prize.

RSL will look stay unbeaten in the 2014 season on Saturday, when it will host Colorado Rapids at 7:30 p.m. at Rio Tinto Stadium in the first leg of the 2014 Rocky Mountain Cup.
