Clean Sweep: Beckerman and Rimando take home MLS Goal and Save of the Week

Goal and Save of the Week

SANDY, Utah – Real Salt Lake swept the MLS weekly awards on Friday, with Captain Kyle Beckerman taking home Goal of the Week and goalkeeper Nick Rimando earning his second-straight Save of the Week honor.

Beckerman won Goal of the Week for his fantastic 11th minute strike in RSL’s 3-3 draw at San Jose last Saturday. The Claret-and-Cobalt captain ran onto a Joao Plata pass in the middle of San Jose’s defensive third, slamming a left-footed shot with his first touch that dipped into the lower left corner from 25 yards out. Beckerman won in a landslide, taking home 47.48 percent of the vote to beat out Toronto’s Jermain Defoe, Seattle’s Clint Dempsey, New York’s Thierry Henry and San Jose’s Victor Bernardez.

Rimando is now a perfect 2-for-2 on MLS Save of the Week awards, with his incredible 22nd minute stop on San Jose forward Chris Wondolowski from Saturday’s draw earning top marks this week. Like Beckerman, Rimando won easily, earning 47.95 percent of the vote to top Portland’s Donovan Ricketts, Philadelphia’s Zac MacMath, Seattle’s Stefan Frei and Montreal’s Troy Perkins.
